LAHORE: The Punjab team has won the Inter-Association Team Title event on the third day of the National Amateur Golf Championships at the Defence Raya Golf Club course here on Saturday.

The Punjab Golf team comprising Mohammed Rehman, Ahmed Baig, Ashiq Hussain and Ghazanfar Mehmood succeeded to win the title but not before facing the biggest scare caused by the Sindh A Team that consisted of Ahmed Ali Shah, Waseem Rana, Zohaib Asif and Anser Mehmood.

At the beginning of the day, the Punjab Team had a lead of 10 strokes over Sindh and looked comfortably placed for victory but as the game progressed Sindh players touched heights of excellence and managed to close the day at level with Punjab.

As per rules, the teams had to nominate one player each for a sudden death play-off. Punjab opted for Ahmed Baig and Sindh put up Zohaib Asif. The play-off turned out to be a tight affair and for two holes the game was level.

On the third hole, the young one of Punjab played a super approach shot to earn a birdie for himself and a memorable victory for his team.

On the other hand, contest for national individual title continues with Taimoor Khan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa using his experience to stayed in the lead by accumulating a score of 216 over 54 holes (3 rounds).

Ghazanfar Mehmood came up with a round of three under par 69 to conclude the three rounds at an aggregate score of 220 to occupy the second position four strokes behind Taimur.

He improved his position from 6th at the end of day two to second after day three with Zohaib Asif having a fabulous round of six under-par-66 and an overall aggregate of 222 which enabled him to move into the third slot six shots behind the leader.
