PESHAWAR: A teenaged student allegedly committed suicide in his school on the outskirts of the city here on Saturday.

The incident took place in Gulbela locality in the limits of Duadzai police station.

Police identified the student as Suliman, student of class-VII.

A police official told Dawn that the boy was around 12 to 13 years old and the incident took place during the school break.

“He went inside a room, where the gun was lying and shot him twice in the abdomen,” the official said, adding he was rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

SHO of Duadzai police, Aijaz Khan, said apparently it was a suicide caused due to emotional problems resulting from his liking for a girl, who didn’t talk to him.

He said the boy’s father had loaned his AK-47 to the school guard as the institution could not afford to purchase a gun for security purposes.

He said the boy used to carry the gun to school and brought it back home after the school closure.
