THE idea of a police complaint centre through SMS/Internet appears to be another waste of effort. It was launched by the Punjab police chief with a lot of fanfare.

My experience with the police has further shaken my faith in their ability and capability.

My car was stolen from Township, Lahore on Aug 31 last year and FIR No. 1149/15 was registered at Green Town police station. The very next day I provided the investigation officer with the CCTV footage of the car being stolen. After numerous visits to various police agencies in the last six months, the result is zero. The footage was sent to Punjab Forensic Laboratory on my insistence and its fate is unknown.

After reading about the launching of PCC, I sent a request through SMS at 8787. It was acknowledged with Complaint No. 100167. The reply also said that SDPO Township would contact me in eight hours. The message was received in the morning of Feb 4 and after a lapse of six days, I have still not heard a word from any quarter. Either it is too small a matter or our police high-ups have far more important matters to attend to.

I request the police to serve the public, as it is the taxpayers’ money that pays their salary.
