SRINAGAR: Hundreds of Kashmiris protesting against Indian rule in occupied Kashmir clashed with government forces shortly after Friday prayers.
Holding aloft Pakistani flags, they chanted slogans like “we want freedom”.
They also threw rocks at police and paramilitary personnel who responded by firing tear gas, police said.
No one was immediately reported injured in the clashes.
The protest coincided with the observance in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir of the Kashmir Solidarity Day, which is observed on Feb 5 every year to support the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
The UN Security Council Resolution 47, adopted in 1948, called for a vote among residents of Kashmir to determine the disputed Himalayan region’s fate. But the resolution has never been implemented.

Indias constitution gives right to all faiths & has rich Islamic heritage. Like kasmir there are many regions, colonies, villages in rest of India where muslims are majority & that does not mean will ask plebiscite in each of the region.All muslims be it in kasmir, mumbai, delhi or any parts are proud of its democratic infrastructure.

India is still waiting for Pakistan to implement it's part of the UN resolution - ie.. to vacate it's army and paramilitary forces from the entire Kashmir.

The resolution which was passed by United Nation Security Council was under chapter VI of UN Charter. Resolutions passed under Chapter VI of UN charter are considered non-binding and have no mandatory enforceability as opposed to the resolutions passed under chapter VII. Any resolution under chapter VI is non-mandatory. Even if a plebiscite was to happen according to United Nations Security Council 47, adopted on April 21, 1948, Pakistan was supposed to withdraw all of its forces from the territory which was the 1st condition of the resolution

There should be a democratic vote in both Indian Occupied Kashmir and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan whether they want to join India, get a separate country or join Pakistan.
Plus India and Pakistan should resolve this issue as soon as possible for the sake of their future generations. Instead of blindly investing in military to destabilize each other, they should invest to eradicate their own problems like poverty, disease and illiteracy.
Have we sworn that we will never excel and become truly developed and prosperous nations? If not then resolve this and start working for own betterment. If France and England, Germany and England, Germany and France; can resolve their conflicts, why can't we?
