LAHORE: A young man committed suicide in Iqbal Town on Thursday after he was forced to marry a woman against his will.

Police said Faizan, 22, of Baikhaywal village, was disturbed after his family married him off with a widow against his will some five months ago.

Police said the man after some months of the marriage shot himself in the head.

The family alerted the police who shifted the body to the morgue for autopsy and also recovered the unlicenced pistol.

Police later handed over the body to family after completing legal formalities.

Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Allah Dita said initial investigation revealed that Faizan had used an unlicenced pistol to commit suicide.

He said Faizan got enraged when his wife gave birth to a baby girl two days ago.

Shot dead: A young man was shot dead allegedly by his rivals in Milat Park on Thursday.

Police said Aijaz Ali, 21, of Ganj Bakhsh Road had a scuffle with his neighbours Rana Pomi and Hasnain some days ago at which they allegedly tortured him. Ali filed a case against them.

On Thursday, Ali and Pomi exchanged harsh words with each other. Pomi called his three accomplices and opened fire at him. The suspects later fled the scene.

Ali was taken to Mayo Hospital where he could not survive.

Police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy and registered a case against Pomi and his three accomplices on the complaint of victim’s brother Arshad.

Station House Officer Inspector Naveed Akmal said raids were being conducted to arrest the suspects.
