SIALKOT: A school of the district that was established 139 years ago has never been upgraded and was still a primary education facility.

Headmaster Muhammad Yaqub told the newsmen that the Government Primary School, Uggoki, (for boys and girls) was established in 1876 by the British rulers.

Since then, he said, it had never been upgraded despite manifold growth in population of the area and the consequent increase in educational needs of the locals.

He said the total number of boys and girl students of the school was 450 and there were just 11 teachers for them.

Locals demand the Punjab government should ensure early upgrade of the school to facilitate education of students who have to travel long distances to attend high school.
