GHALANAI: Teachers blocked the main Peshawar-Bajaur road here on Monday demanding their upgradation. Call for the protest was given by the All Teachers Associations, Fata Mohmand Agency.

The protesters carried placards and banners inscribed with their demands. A large number of teachers from various schools of the tribal agency attended the protest.

The protesters complained that while teachers of settled areas were upgraded four years back, Fata teachers were still waiting their upgradation.

Amir Khan, a primary schoolteacher, told Dawn that tribal teachers were performing duties in remote and risky areas, but the high ups of the education department were taking no interest in solving their problems.

On the occasion, Watan Pal Teachers Association president Mar Jan Ali demanded that Fata teachers should be upgraded like the teachers of other parts of the country. He said all facilities and incentives should be provided to the teachers of tribal areas.

The teachers warned to extend their protest to other tribal agencies if their demands were not met.
