Bin Qasim wins Dollar East T20 League title

KARACHI: Bin Qasim beat Royal CC in a nail-biting final to win the First Dollar East Premier League T20 tournament at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium here recently.

Batting first, Bin Qasim scored 176-6 with Fauz-ul-Hasan scoring a brilliant century off just 70 balls. He was supported well by Anas Ahmed who slammed a brisk 42.

Taha Mamsa, with three wickets, was the most successful bowler for Royal CC.

In reply, Royal CC could managed 164 all out with only Umar Imtiaz (47) and Zakir Malik (31) resisting the opposition bowling to some extent.

Fahad Anjum bowled superbly for Bin Qasim to pick 4-14.

The tournament, organised by Zubair Zaheer Sheikh, was competed in by six teams from the city including Royal CC, Bin Qasim, Medicam CC, Soni Associates, MAA CC and Shadab CC.

Fauz was declared Man-of-the-Match for his century and he also picked up the Man-of-the-Tournament award for scoring 244 runs in the tournament.

Best bowler of the tournament was Toheed Khan who captured nine wickets while Tanveer-ul-Haq with six catches and three run outs was declared best fielder.—Agencies

Softball coaching camp concludes

KARACHI: The 15-day softball coaching camp at Trinity Girls Degree College concluded in a simple ceremony here on Wednesday.

The camp featuring over a hundred girls was organised jointly by the Sindh Softball Association (SSA) and the Softball Federation of Pakistan (SFP).

Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) chairman Arif Ellahi was the chief guest on the occasion and said that the softball is a popular game in Pakistan, equally among men and women. He assured that PNSC will provide all assistance and support for promoting the game and appreciated the services of SFP secretary Asif Azeem for supporting the game in the country.

Dr. Farhan Essa also spoke on the occasion and announced sponsoring an inter-school softball league, to be held for the first time in Karachi.

Trinity College Principal Iren Pearl later thanked the SSA and the SFP for organising the events for the girls at the venue.—APP

Saad claims 4-6 in Ian Fyfe T20

KARACHI: Saad Abdul Basit proved unplayable in a four-wicket spell as St Patrick’s High School registered an easy win over St Michael’s School in the seventh Ian Fyfe Memorial Inter-school Invitation T20 Cricket League at the KGA Gymkhana Ground here on Tuesday.

Batting first after winning the toss, St Michael’s were all out for 104 in 19.4 overs despite a 73-run partnership for the third wicket between opener Ahmed Qadri (46) and Kamran Hussain (28), the only batsmen to reach double figures.

Saad returned excellent analysis of four wickets for just six runs in 3.4 overs, while Hamza Saleem took 2-7.

St Patrick’s, in reply, sealed a seven-wicket triumph in 16.1 overs. Anis Younis batted well to hit 39 and Uzair Alam made 28.

Nigeria’s Abiola to meet Asad in final at ITF Seniors

KARACHI: Nigeria’s Amodu Abiola continued his winning spree here at the 24th Karachi Club Pakistan ITF Senior World Ranking Tennis Championship when he beat Panju Ali in the semifinal by 6-4, 6-1 to reach the final of the 35-plus Singles category.

He will meet Asad Bhagat in the final who overcame a stiff challenge from Khanzada Sher to win 6-3, 6-4.

In the 45-plus Singles semi-final, veteran Rasheed Malik outplayed M Iltifat 6-1, 6-2.

Fawzi’s services recognised

LAHORE: Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) president Fawzi Khawaja earned an “Award of Character” from the international chapter of the game in recognition of his services for arranging rugby matches in Peshawar after the deadly attack of terrorists at Army Public School last year.

The matches were organised between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata.

According to a press release issued by the PRU here on Wednesday, the award was given in a ceremony held in London which was also attended by PRU secretary Arif Saeed.

Fawzi said that it was a honour for Pakistan and the PRU.—Sports Reporter

PBF meeting today

KARACHI: Matters pertaining to the uplift of game in the country will come up for discussion when the general council of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) meets at the KPT Sports Complex on Thursday at 1pm, officials said.

The meeting is being held after a three-year layoff since re-election of Doda Khan Bhutto as president for the second four-year term in December 2012.

The meeting, among other matters, will discuss domestic and international activities of the game besides considering reports of its affiliated units.—Sports Correspondent
