UMERKOT: A general councillor Shabir Ahmed was shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday in Umerkot district's Pithoro area.

According to eye witnesses, Shabir Ahmed general councilor of Pithoro taluka's Bareji union council was sitting at an auto-shop near Shadi Palli mor with his father on Umerkot-Mirpurkhas road when three unknown persons came there, and had a conversation with him.

Later they opened fired at the Pakistan Muslim League leader who died on the spot.

Fear and panic gripped the area following the attack. The body was shifted to a hospital in Pithoro for autopsy.

Enraged residents blocked the Umerkot-Mirpurkhas road after the incident.
