GUJRANWALA: Saddar police claimed on Wednesday to have killed three ‘hitmen’ during two ‘encounters’ at Ghakkhar Town and Alipur Chattha (Wazirabad) and recovered some arms from them.

Speaking at a press conference at his office on Wednesday, Saddar SP Dr. Rizwan Ahmad said two hired assassins were killed on Kot Noora Road in Ghakkhar Town when they were firing at a cable network office in a bid to get extortion money.

He said deceased identified as Shehroz Butt of Amir Park, Gujranwala, and Naeem alias Kako of Gujrat were the shooters of ‘notorious criminal’ Fahedi Jut who had been settled in the US for the last many years. He alleged that Jut had six people killed through the hitmen at Ghakkhar Town over extortion issues during the last one year.

He said third hired assassin Ali Akbar alias Chando of Wazirabad was the member of Atif alias Atti gang and wanted in about a dozen cases of murder and target killing.

The SP hoped that Jut would be arrested soon as police had contacted Interpol for the purpose.

Meanwhile, Ghakkhar Town SHO Inspector Amir Shaheen Gondal told Dawn that the hired assassins were firing at the cable office at midnight on Kot Noora Road and killed by the firing of their own men.

He said the suspects had already shot dead three cable operators Rizwan Shah, Kashif alias Kashi and Lalli Butt and were involved in other murder cases.

He claimed that other accomplices of the hitmen had been traced out and would be arrested soon.

NIGERIAN NATIONALS: The Cantonment police rescued on Wednesday two Nigerian nationals who were confined illegally in D.C Colony and arrested two captors.

Police received information that some men had held two Nigerian nationals hostage in DC Colony over some monetary issue.

Cantonment SHO Inspector Ansar Mohal raided there under the supervision of Civil Lines SP Nadeem Khokhar and recovered Abu Bakr and Abu Al-Yaqeen and arrested Rizwan and Mohsin. A case has been registered against them.

ASSUMES CHARGE: The newly- appointed Regional Police Officer, Muhammad Tahir, on Wednesday assumed charge of his office.

Earlier, City Police Officer Waqas Nazir was holding the charge of acting RPO for the last some months.

PILLION RIDING BANNED: District Coordination Officer Amir Jan on Wednesday imposed a ban on pillion riding in connection with the Muharam security throughout the district and issued a notification to the effect.
