APROPOS the letters on ‘FPSC tests’ ( Oct 2 and 3). I agree with both letter writers that the FPSC has many flaws in its ‘general recruitment’ system.

For the sake of more transparency and merit, I want to give the following suggestions:

The FPSC should issue carbon copies of the optical marks recognition sheet to the candidates for each tesd or failed, on its website.

It should upload the answers of each test so that candidates can tally their marks as declared by the FPSC.

After declaring the results, the FPSC should upload merit lists of candidates as per their regional quota/merit.

The names of candidates whose documents have been received by the FPSC should also be uploaded before the interview stage.

As optical marks recognition sheets are machine readable, the announcement of results should be reduced from six months to two months approximately.

THE Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) are two credible neutral commissions. Both deal with the recruitment of civilian posts through examinations and interviews. The former only deals with candidates having their domicile from Punjab and the latter deals with candidates from all over Pakistan.

There is a contradiction in the relaxation of age-limit rule for those candidates who are already in government service. For example, the age limit for a lecturer in BPS-17 is 33 in both commissions.

For those government employees who have completed two years’ of continuous service in any government department, the FPSC gives them 10 extra years of relaxation in upper age which means that they are eligible up to 43 years for lecturer posts.

On the contrary, the rule of PPSC is that the total service of a government servant is excluded from his current age to calculate the upper age limit which should not exceed 33 years for the post of a lecturer.

Recently, I became a victim to this illogical rule of the PPSC at the time of my interview for the post of an English lecturer. It is really disgusting for me when PPSC authorities declare me overage. I have submitted my grievance in the form of an application to the PPSC but have yet to receive a reply.

I request the chief minister of Punjab to take immediate action and rectify the rules of the PPSC which are entirely unfair and illogical.
