KARACHI: Police officials on Tuesday arrested a suspected target killer who has been allegedly trained by the Indian spy agency RAW, according to a statement released by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).

The suspect, Laiq alias Kaala, is the main accused in the Chakra Goth attack case in which armed assailants opened fire on a bus carrying policemen.

The police claims that the target killer was also involved in the murder of seven ethnic Pashtuns in 2012 in the Katti Pahari area of Karachi, and the murder of two Bengalis in 2013 in the city’s Zaman town area.

“The target killer used to hire a rent a car from the Ayesha Manzil area to commit the murders,” said the police statement.

The statement further added that Laiq has also confessed to his involvement in 20 other cases of target killing.

The police also claimed to have recovered a 9mm pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition of the same calibre.

Earlier in 2011, at least four people, including three policemen, were killed and 30 others wounded when a group of 15 to 20 gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire on the bus carrying dozens of policemen at Chakra Goth in Korangi.
