Badaber attack: FIR registered against unknown suspects

PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unknown suspects on terror charges in relation to Friday's deadly attack on an Air Force camp in Peshawar's Badaber area.
The Darra Adamkhel chapter of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) earlier claimed responsibility for the attack.
Sources told DawnNews that on the complaint of camp commandant Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Hussain, the FIR was registered against unidentified suspects. Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) and other terrorism-related charges were framed against the suspects in the FIR, they said.
In wake of the brazen assault, search and strike operations were initiated in Badaber and Matani areas during which police arrested at least 28 suspects, including 8 Afghan nationals.
Ten educational institutes, including four colleges, which are located in areas adjacent to the camp stormed by terrorists were closed on Saturday owing to security reasons. Security sources said the institutions will remain closed till the end of Eidul Azha holidays.
In what appeared to be a precisely planned and executed attack, terrorists displayed their ability to breach the security of an Air Force camp by carrying out one of the deadliest assaults on a defence installation on the southern fringes of the provincial capital, Dawn newspaper reported.
Twenty-nine people — among them personnel of the Pakistan Air Force and military and some civilians — lost their lives and all 13 militants who had stormed the camp were also killed.

Pakistani establishment should take action against terrorists irrespective of their being good or bad to Islamabad or Rawalpindi. No Taliban is good. Have you heard if there are good hyenas and bad hyenas. They are hyenas and will go for the kill.

It seem to be a war of poverty,unemployment,revenge and hunger.When we could not feed our people and provide justice those have nots will be hired by enemies of the country for their ulterior motives.Did we have any record of the terrorist killed so far and the reason why they become terrorist.Any study?The solution is root out corruption on war footing and put Pakistan in fast economic mode.Any further delay in countering corruption will bring irreparable loss to the country.Wake up Pakistan and kill corruption and terrorism will die naturally.

Have we registered another FIR against those negligent and irresponsible unknown security personal, why cant we do this too. 13 terrorist dressed in black, riding Suzuki pickups came all the way from Khyber agency at 4.30 am , where was the police, pickets, check posts and mobiles and then they dismounted in front of the base guardroom . Base had watchtowers, not a single shot was fired from watchtowers because nobody was watching rather nobody was their.

In all such attacks the terrorists have used military uniforms to infiltrate deeper before they could be detected and confronted. What is preventing us to create a secure mobile app based force movements, identification and recognition system? If government does not have resources and capabilities to develop such a framework then perhaps it should involve universities. This vulnerability needs to be addressed.

I wonder why registering an FIR is a big thing in Pakistan.
It should be mandatory to register First Information Report in case of a murder, robbery, kidnapping or other serious crimes.
Also, Police should not be waiting for some one to come forward to file the report, crime happened Police must register the report and start the investigation.
This is how it is done in Europe, U.S and Canada

@Sameer I don't think you read the report. The attackers are all dead. And the FIR is to find the ones who planned it. So far all we have is the radio communication between the attackers and their planners.

@Zubaida Khan There are ways to address the security concerns of mobile based force movement tracking and identification system. I am not suggesting a high school type amateur design. My suggestion is for well thought and secure framework. We need to use technology to address this vulnerability. It is time to invent tools that can help us fight the terror. Looking towards west for such solutions will not help as it is our war and we are being hurt. I am in the field of software development for last 20 years and can say with full confidence that we can build tools to support our forces in their fight against terror.

The PAF base was built by Americans in the 50's as a listening post to Soviet military communications with a powerful radar system.The base was handed over to Pakistan after the advent of satellites. The base has watch towers but they were not properly manned at the time of the attack. The base was guarded by two security personnel with no back up plan. The commanding officer Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Hussain should explain to the people of Pakistan why he did not take proper preventive measures to protect the lives of young people under his command. The FIR lodged by the officer is a waste of time and expected to bring no solution. Since the terrorists were getting instructions on the cell phone from Afghanistan, we can find out the coordinates of the location in Afghanistan.Once the locations is determined, we should send special forces to wipe out the terrorist leader along with his supporters. This is the FIR Pakistan army need to work on with the help of Afghan govt.

FIR serves as foundation for all legal proceedings in the courts of law and it is an important document for further investigations. The authorities have revealed some names of the attackers but still the FIR is lodged against unknown persons which weakens the case when it goes through the legal process. Looking at the hundreds of such unfortunate incidents over more than a decade we hardly find people punished for the heinous crime as FIRs are lodged only by Police that too against the unknown persons. It takes no time to identify the dead or wounded among the attackers through on line verification of the culprits from NADRA and the legal heirs of victims should have been asked to register FIR against those identified after the incident.
