UPPER DIR: A volunteer of the Amn Lashkar was killed and three others were injured in a roadside explosion in Doog Dara area of Upper Dir on Thursday.

The police and local people said that five volunteers were going to Upper Doog Dara from Mena (Central) Doog Dara by car when a bomb planted by suspected militants exploded at Hajiabad. One volunteer died and three were critically injured. Sheringal police identified the deceased as Rahman Wali, a resident of the Sona area, and the injured as Fazal Hakeem, Khan Zaman and Anwaruddin.

The injured were taken to District Headquarters Hospital Dir from where they were shifted to Peshawar.

Sources said that Amn Lashkar volunteers had played a pivotal role in removing militants from their stronghold in Upper Doog Dara. They said members of the Lashkar were receiving threats from militants across the Afghan border.

A police official who wished to remain anonymous told Dawn that area residents had observed militant movement on the Afghan border near Chitral-Doog Dara mountainous areas.

Security forces and the police have launched a joint search operation in the area. However, no arrest was reported as yet.
