FORMER Indian President and renowned scientist Dr A.P.J. (Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen) Abdul Kalam, passed away on Monday at age 83.

I would like to pay tribute to him by sharing with Dawn’s readers some of his thoughts and sayings that he uploaded on his Face Book Timeline page. They are: a teacher has to be a guiding light for all his or her students; learn to manage failures... It is a critical skill to be successful; knowledge makes you powerful.

The 21st century is not just about experience and knowing it is about unlearning, relearning and flexible learning; don’t pretend to be a candle, be a moth. Know the power hidden in serving.
