GUJRANWALA: As many as nine labourers suffered burn injuries on Monday when a dud exploded in scrap at a steel mill in Muafiwala here on Sialkot Road.

Reports said labourers were working in Haroon Steel Mills when an explosion took place in scrap as a result Hamza, Farooq, Irfan, Asad, Waqas, Arshed, Abdul Rehman, Shahid and Ahmad Yar suffered burns. They were shifted to Mayo Hospital, Lahore from DHQ Hospital because of their critical condition.

HUMAN TRAFFICKERS: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed on Monday to have arrested 89 human traffickers and made a record recovery of Rs22.48 million during a month-long drive.

At a briefing FIA Deputy Director Malik Sikander said a red-book suspect identified as Zafar and hardened criminals Malik Sheraz, Imran, Abid, Zahid, Tariq, Raja Afzal and Muhammad Ashfaq were among the arrested. He said human agents Asif Raza, Nawaz, Haroon, Amanat Ali, Muhammad Arshad and Farooq were convicted by courts.

He said six people including Zeshan Siddiqi, Aftab Siddiqi, Faisal and Qaiser were arrested on charges of gas and electricity theft.

BODIES RETRIEVED: Police retrieved on Monday the bodies of a youth and a girl from Upper Chenab canal and shifted them to DHQ morgue for autopsy.

The motive behind the murder of the couple could not be ascertained.
