QUETTA: At least three suspected militants were killed in a targeted operation carried out by security forces in Quetta's adjoining Eastern Bypass area early Tuesday.

A security official, who requested anonymity, told DawnNews that a targeted operation was launched by security agencies and Frontier Corps (FC) in the Eastern Bypass area during which three suspected militants were killed.

According to security officials, one of three militants killed in the operation appears to be an Uzbek national, as indicated by his facial features.

At least two security personnel sustained injuries in the targeted operation, the security source said.

Security personnel also recovered a cache of arms from the possession of the suspected militants, who are believed to have been involved in incidents of targeted killing in Quetta.

The operation comes a day after three people — including a policeman — were killed when unidentified assailants opened fire on them in Quetta's Joint road area.

"Apart from the policeman, all victims belonged to Quetta's Shia Hazara community," police said earlier, while terming the incident an act of targeted killing. The deceased policeman was identified as Kala Khan.

Security forces have intensified their actions in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan after the announcement of National Action Plan to combat terrorism in the country.
