Iftar brings together a league of disgruntled

LAHORE: Former Punjab governor and disgruntled PML-N leader Sardar Zulfikar Khosa, former National Assembly speaker Hamid Nasir Chattha and others met at an iftar dinner on Friday. It is learned they discussed the prospects of forming a new faction of the Muslim League called United Muslim League, reportedly to be led by former army chief Pervez Musahrraf.
One of the participants told Dawn that the iftar dinner had been thrown by PML-Junejo leader Rizwan at his residence where disgruntled PML-N leader from Sindh Ghaus Ali Shah, PML-Functional’s Muhammad Ali Durrani and others were also in attendance.
The source said that Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and PML-Z president Ijazul Haq had also been invited to the huddle but they both declined to attend it, while the PML-Q had not been invited.
Mr Shah, however, left earlier to catch a flight for Saudi Arabia for performing Umra.
When contacted, Mr Khosa confirmed that various leaders had met at the iftar but denied that it was any formal meeting.
Asked if they had discussed unification of Muslim Leagues minus PML-N, he said “when people meet they discuss various issues from national to local and I cannot tell a lie by saying that we did not talk (on the specific issue)”.
Mr Durrani, a former federal information minister in Musharraf regime, denied that he was present in the meeting.
Samsam Bukhari, who recently joined the PTI, had said in an interview that some forces were working to form a new party to be led by retired Gen Musharraf.

Gen. Musharraf has my full support, he is the only person to put the fatherland on the right track, not these crooks who are in power now.
The people of Pakistan have to wake up especially the middle class who are basically sitting on the side watching the land go down the gutter.
The people who have power and are Govt officials have to held responsible for there deeds.Checks and balances.
The masses of the land have to be given a better deal as they are the backbone of the land, i mean the farmer community, who toil the land for so little.

Old sour grapes recycled into a wine bottle does not make them a good wine. They were a failure, they will be a failure. Pakistan needs a young western educated liberal oriented leader to lead the country out of fanaticism, feudalism and extortionism. Recylced politicians taking turn on 'Political musical chair game' is not a solution but a recipe for a fatal disaster.

Only one person who was in power and ran the country well was Mr. Musharraf so he should form a party and run to become a demorcatrically elected PM. It will be good for pakistan to have PTI, UML, PML-N and PPP.

With PPPP and MQM in death throes, PML-N stymied by gross incompetence, dynastic thinking and inability to break loose of tightly knit leadership, and PTI having miserably failed to live up to its initial promise, the need is dire and the time is now for the formation of a new secular, liberal and forward looking party made up of honest or at least relatively honest leaders from all parties. Hope it materializes.

Musharraf has a big responsibility of the mess Pakistan is in today on economic, energy, political and security front.
- Upwards of 10billion$ was given during the period 2001/2007 that has absolutely no accountability.
- At times when writing was on the wall in terms of dwindling gas reserves in the country the populus was hooked onto CNG to get cheap alternative fuel with no foresight and planning for replacement/additional gas.
- Investment in power infrastructure was non-existent when he could have put an effort on adding more hydal power - kalabagh for one.
- He was willing to compromise where needed to save his own skin/power theough NRO but showed no such inclination on Balochistan.
Frankly we had a party at someone's expense and now missing it!

It is a step in the right direction.
Let all the political parties and individuals fight for seats in the next elections.
Right now all the political parties, at the federal and provincial levels, work for the improvement of social, political, educational and economic conditions of Pakistan. The bottom line is let democracy in Pakistan work!
I, as Canadian of Pakistani origin, feel happy that least democracy is being given a chance in Pakistan.
