APROPOS the editorial ‘ECP’s challenge’ (June 30). No organisation ever accepts that it is at fault, and ECP is no exception.

The Elections 2013 was not a rocket science, and the entire nation witnessed how badly they were conducted. As a result, even the then CEC had to tender his resignation prematurely.

The ECP has accepted that there were fairly widespread procedural lapses by polling officials. The question then arises: don’t these procedural lapses amount to unfair practices? Nowhere in the world does the polling staff consist of full-time employees. They are drawn from different departments. It is the election commission that is supposed to conduct their training. Did the ECP do it?

The ECP must ensure that future elections are held in a free, fair and transparent manner and there is no loophole that can be made use of by candidates.
