COAS, PM discuss Indian funding of 'subversive activities'

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif in a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday at PM House discussed Indian involvement in funding terrorism in Pakistan.

The PM and COAS spoke about recent disclosures made in a BBC documentary which alleged that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) received Indian funding to carry out subversive activities.

The meeting also discussed matters of internal security and the war against terrorism.

Gen Raheel Sharif apprised PM Nawaz about the progress made in Operation Zarb-i-Azb across Pakistan.

The security situation at Pakistan's eastern and western borders was also examined.

The accusations against Indian funding of MQM come at a time when the political party is facing an investigation regarding charges of money laundering. A team of investigators from Scotland Yard arrived in Islamabad yesterday to question a suspect arrested in connection with the case earlier in April.

While Altaf on Monday rejected claims of any involvement with Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), MQM leader Tariq Mir confessed to the London police in an earlier interview that Altaf knew about Indian funding of MQM's activities.

The Pakistani and Indian leadership have also recently exchanged inflammatory statements back-and-forth which may culminate in PM Nawaz raising the issue of Indian interference in Pakistan's affairs at the annual United Nations General Assembly this year.

It is good that this time, Army is leading the initiative which the civilian leadership was unable to do in the past and because of this we suffered so much. One humble request to my fellow citizens, please do not jump to the conclusion at this juncture. Let the investigations come to their conclusion and then we can all break hell loose to bring this to an end. MQM regardless of the mandate they hold is not above law and if they get funding from money and work against the interest of Pakistan then they should be made an example for others to learn a lesson. But till then, lets not jump the gun here as been apparently provoked by some political parties who are trying to gain political mileage out of it without realizing what mess it can create with regards to law and order in the country and the threat it poses to common man's lives.

I wish our PM and COAS had held such meeting over Karachi tragedy. And in the wake of further heat waves coming, I wish they had discussed strategy to counter future heat waves. But that issue is more difficult to handle, may be even out of our capability.

What a tragedy.A PM is discussing plans with military not with his cabnet.Military should follow order of elected candidates.eigther you reject that political gov or allow miltary rule.two simultaneous power cant work together.their is always a angle of diversion between them.(practcle physics).let the military or political gov rule the poeple alone.conditions will be much better.

Indian involvement in subversive activities in Pakistan cannot be denied now given the former's aggressive stance towards the latter. First hostile statements by the Indian Defence Minister followed by National Security Advisor and the Prime Minister himself at Dhaka University. This is all happening after the inking of CPEC projects. Why? The answer lies with all.

@Masood Ali Khan All nation States maintain covert presence in others with which interests clash. India may well be following this universal practice. But it defies logic, and commonsense, that it should be dabbling with a legitimate Pakistani party of some significance. Seems to be someone's diversionary tactics. Needs to be resolved soon.

I am reading dawn online paper since last 1 year but never seen pm nawaz sarif heading any meeting related to education reform, never in any university convocation, establishing any college or university, meeting with educationalist, or scientist ,award giving ceremony to young students etc.. When will these things come in priority?????

India has been meddling in Pakistani affairs since late 60's. I.e., supporting Mukti Bahni, random bombings in 80's and then using proxies. They should be taken to task and if they dont quit then Pak needs to open up a can of hurt.

@Kuladeep Patil India is obsessed with Pakistan, look at your news papers Govt officials, and TV all have deep eyes on Pakistan. There is now independent report plus many agents (RAW) who have been apprehended. Not to mention India's interference in Bangladesh.
