CHITRAL: The JI-JUI-F alliance has clinched a clear majority in the local body polls in Chitral.

As per unofficial results, out of 24 seats of district council, JUI-F got seven, JI six, PTI five, PPP three and APML two, while an independent candidate also secured victory.

Out of 14 members of tehsil council Chitral, JI got six, JUI-F four, PPP and PTI two each, while in Mastuj tehsil JUI-F and APML got three seats each out of 10 while PTI got two seats and PPP one seat, respectively. An independent candidate also won a seat.

The successful candidates of district council included Inamullah (Ashrait), Mufti Mahmudul Hasan (Drosh-I), Sher Mohammad (Sheshi Koh), Fatehullah (Broze), Riaz Ahmed Diwan Begi (Chitral-II), Maulana Abdur Rahman (Koh) and Maulana Attaur Rahman (Terich), belonging to JUI-F; while Haji Sher Mohammad (Arandu), Inamul Haq (Ayun), Maulana Jamshed (Chitral-I), Maghfirat Shah (Denin), Javed Hussain (Mulkhow) and Akbar Shah (Shagram), won on JI tickets.

Similarly, Rahmat Ghazi Khan (Booni), Abdul Latif (Oveer), Ghulam Mustafa (Kosht), Mohammad Yaqub (Karimabad) and Zulfi Hunar Shah (Laspur) secured wins on PTI tickets, while Sher Aziz Baig (Khot), Rahmat Wali (Yarkhun) and Ghulam Mustafa (Mastuj) were the nominees of PPP. APML’s winners were Shahzada Khalid Parvaiz (Drosh-I) and Abdul Qayum (Shoghore). A social worker, Mohammad Hussain, won in the Lot Koh ward as independent candidate.

The polling was held in a peaceful atmosphere and women participated in the process without any hindrance, said district police officer, Abbas Majid Marwat.
