ISLAMABAD: Former Test fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz on Thursday said the current crop of Pakistan bowlers need to deliver more as they are not the same they used to be in the department of bowling before.

Sarfraz, however, praised Pakistan for defeating Zimbabwe by 41 runs in the first One-day International in Lahore on the ex-Test paceman said he cannot understand when a legend like Waqar Younis is the head coach but still the bowlers are not doing well.

“Zimbabwe were able to score 334 in the first one-dayer just because our bowlers allowed them to score freely,” he said. “In the past, Pakistan used to dismiss their opponents for low totals, but this is not the case these days.”

Sarfraz said Wahab Riaz did well bagging three wickets for 47 runs in 10 overs but queried what did the rest of the bowlers do.

“Anwar Ali was picked in the team from his domestic performance but he took just one wicket while giving away 81 runs in 10 overs. Same is the case with the aging Mohammad Sami; he took no wicket in seven overs but went for 63 runs,” he lamented.

Sarfraz said the selectors need to show confidence in youngsters as the World Twenty20 is due to be played next year and the preparations for the global event should start now.

The outspoken Sarfraz praised Malik for his brilliant performance with the bat, saying: “I believe that now Malik has earned a permanent place in the side.

“Hafeez, Azhar Ali and Haris Sohail have showed the fans that what passion lies in the players when they are playing at home,” he said.
