Fake degrees: details of clients shared with US embassy

ISLAMABAD: The investigators probing the Axact scandal have shared with the US embassy details of fake degrees allegedly awarded to American citizens.
Sources in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) told Dawn that search and scanning of records seized from the software company’s office and data from its computers had disclosed that most of its clients were US citizens.

The details the FIA had gathered from the company’s office about the US citizens had been shared with the embassy and the investigators were waiting for a reply, the sources said.
According to the sources, there were rare cases where the company had allegedly sold degrees to Pakistani nationals and it was essential to gather more record and testimony from the foreigners who had paid huge amounts to obtain the certificates.

The sources claimed that the FIA was also seeking help from the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate the case because US-based universities were also involved.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said last week that a decision had been taken to seek legal assistance from the FBI and Interpol for investigation into the alleged sale of fake degrees.

Pakistani fia just wasting its time by sending list of peoples obtained fake degrees, there is no law existed in the usa to prosecute those peoples. they could counter sue usa government for damages instead.

Please let the people know how many Pakistani have purchased the fake degrees from the bulk shown on TV. Get them interviewed before the media to reveal the process. Most of the purchasers are American citizens. Well are they so simple to verify these fake degrees? Further how fake degrees could be accepted in America.
Are all these not fishy?

Not a surprise that most 'ghost' universities were allegedly based in the U.S., or that most of the buyers of these fake diplomas were U.S citizens.

It seems like the Pakistanis are over reacting. In the US there are hundred of outlets are selling fake degrees. Selling fake degree is not a crime, buying is.

Rare cases where the company sold fake degrees to Pakistanis so it would take time to investigate them...ya right...if it is rare then it is even easier to find out and also most of these 'Rare' cases will be of Pakistani politicians and MNA's MPA's so no wonder it will take a loooong time to find out and investigate! Americans can come in and find out from a Pakistani company which citizens were sold fake degrees but FIA sitting in Karachi cannot find out about Pakistanis sitting here! What a sham!

What about Axact's Pakistani customers, those who are holding public offices and government posts? Why are we not talking about those people. Is there no justice for Paksistan and Pakistanis?

Does it make any difference? Americans are least bothered about this issue. There is no concept of fake degree in the US. These degrees are called online degrees obtained from institutions not in the mainstream and recognized by regional or professional associations. The employer in the US does not care what your degree is. He cares about what do you know and what you are capable of doing.

The Axact case has so far been dealt with at a very brisk pace. All credit to the investigating authorities for that. However, it is really mind boggling that despite the passage of nearly three months, the authorities seem to have gotten nowhere in the Ayyan money laundering case. What should we make of this tardiness.

Heads should roll in the US as well, of those who are occupying job positions on fake degrees. There must be some sort of support and protection from someone in the US; otherwise this fake business wouldn't have thrived for so long and at such a vast scale as far as US is concrened.

Selling fake degrees is a serious crime but selling substandard medicines is not ?????....online businesses need to be scrutinized globally. Mostly US ,Canadian pharmacy and Indian companies are selling substandard medicine all over the world. Prejudice probes and then closing all business of Axact while only 1 company was involved makes no sense.

@Donald Duncan It can not be justified based on the fact that others are also doing the wrong. Its a matter of education any fake education should be dealt strictly. Such kind of wrong doing creating bad impression on the nation's image and possibly bring many difficulties to the ordinary Pakistanis.
