SWABI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf on Sunday held a huge rally here to show its political muscle less than a week before the local body elections.

The participants of the rally converged at Bakar Chowk in Saleem Khan union council from where PTI candidate Shahzada Fahad is contesting election for district councillor.

National songs with high pitched sound system like the PTI sit-in in Islamabad reverberated far and wide. The famous party slogan ‘aye aye, PTI’ was echoing all around. The PTI district office-bearers and key leaders attended the gathering to support Shahzada Fahad, who is district president of Insaf Students Federation.

A key PTI leader who also attended the meeting told Dawn on condition of anonymity that the party candidates, if emerged victorious, would wholeheartedly work for people’s welfare.

“It has been decided that each meeting of the party contesting candidates would be graced by the key leaders to lure voters and boost morale of the contestants and workers,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Mian Faheem Akbar, a central PTI leader, said they had been working to establish a transparent system to get rid of corrupt politicians.

Anwar Haqdad, PTI’s district president, said that the cry of change was for the betterment of people.
