HYDERABAD: Students danced on Sindhi folk songs, presented tableaux and dramas on the importance of education and gave other solo and duet performances at a programme held in the Dr N.A. Baloch Model School, Elsa Kazi Campus, on Tuesday evening to mark Parents Day.

Sindh University vice chancellor Prof Dr Abida Taherani, who was the chief guest, Hyderabad Commissioner Asif Hyder Shah, SU faculty and officers and students and their parents attended the programme in a large number.

Principal of the model school Syed Ahsan Shah Rashdi in his introductory remarks highlighted importance of education and achievements by his institution.

Students of primary and secondary classes presented Sindhi songs to enthral the audience.

Students of the school’s kindergarten section dressed in red and blue attire danced on folk Sindhi song Aandhi mein joat jalain wara Sindhi.

Their performance received a big applause from the audience. A similar performance was given by the students who sang Jaag Sindhi Jaag nahay wail sumhan ji.

A variety of games were organised for students and their parents.

The vice chancellor and other luminaries gave away awards and prizes for speech and dance competitions.

Earlier, speaking to the audience, VC Dr Taherani said that the SU was rendering great services in the education sector and promoting academic activities. Every person of society must play his role in this regard, she said. She said there was no dearth of talent, and observed that the SU faculty and officers were doing their best for the progress and development of the institution.

She also highlighted the role of parents in encouraging their children to focus on their education and career.

She reminded the audience that it was Dewan Pirbhu Das who got the historical Elsa Kazi building constructed to help Muslims, a minority in the area at that time, get their children educated.

Dr Taherani said it was PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s vision to ensure education to all at their door-steps, adding that the SU was trying to accomplish the mission and had established its seven campuses in the province.

Commissioner Asif Hyder Shah, Brig Mohammad Abu Zar and others also spoke.
