KARACHI: Sindh Police has sought assistance from the general public in relation to human rights activist Sabeen Mahmud's murder case, requesting that those with any piece of information related to the incident share it with police.

A statement issued by Deputy Inspector General South Zone Dr Jamil Ahmed on Tuesday vowed to protect the identities of informers and also offered a handsome amount of cash reward for them.

Mahmud, also the director of The 2nd Floor (T2F) café, was shot dead on April 24 around 9:20pm at a traffic signal near the Central Defence Library on Sunset Boulevard, Karachi.

In an attempt to seek help from citizens in resolving the case, police has provided two telephone numbers, where people can share any tangible information relevant to the incident — the numbers are 021-99205670 and 021-99205671.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had condemned her assassination, terming the attack as "tragic and unfortunate", adding that intelligence agencies have been tasked to assist in the investigation of the killing.

Dr Jamil Ahmed said, “It is a clear case of targeted killing and police are working on a few possible motives of the murder.”

Police is also looking into the possibility of involvement of extremist organisations as they believe Sabeen was targeted for being a liberal female activist.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
