PESHAWAR: Former Pakistan Peoples Party MNA Akhunzada Chatan survived an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Bajaur tribal region's Mandal area.

According to sources, the former Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker was on his way from the town of Khar to Mandal village to attend a political gathering when the IED planted on a roadside exploded near the village.

As a result, some vehicles in Chatan's convoy got damaged but he managed to escape the attack unhurt.

In another development, security forces destroyed hideouts of suspected militants in Bajaur's Mamond area.

Bajaur, one of the seven regions comprising Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), is governed by tribal laws.

The region has undergone military operations against an insurgency led by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The area is also known to be infested with militants, including those from Al Qaeda and other armed extremist organisations.
