Official vows to improve standard of education in Fata

KHAR: Revolutionary steps would be taken to improve standard of education in tribal areas and restore trust of people in the government educational institutions, said Fata Education Director Hamidullah Jan here on Wednesday.

He was addressing a ceremony organised by National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) in connection with the enrolment drive at Government Higher Secondary School Gardai.

The official said that Fata Education Directorate was making efforts to promote education in tribal areas as education was essential for peace and sustainable development. “We are making all out efforts to restore trust of people in government educational institutions in tribal areas because most of the people are disappointed with the poor performance of state-run schools and colleges,” he added.

He said that special attention would be given to enrolment of girls during the drive to improve female literacy rate in the agency. He directed the officials of education department to sensitise people about the importance of education.

Mr Jan asked the officials to take tribal elders, religious and political leaders and social activists on board in the enrolment drive. He launched the enrolment drive by filling and signing admission forms of children and giving them free textbooks and bags.

FC: Inspector General Frontier Crops Maj Gen Mohammad Tayyab Azam said here on Wednesday that FC would continue to fight against militants till their complete elimination in the region.

He was addressing as chief guest the passing out parade of 18th batch of FC at Bajaur Scouts Training Academy in Kahr. He appreciated the role and contribution of FC in elimination of militants, restoration of peace and writ of the government in the tribal areas.

He said that FC soldiers were the real heroes, who played leading role in fighting against militancy and extremism in the region. He said that entire nation appreciated the role played by FC in the fight against militants and other anti-social elements in the tribal areas.

Mr Azam said that FC would continue to execute public welfare schemes in the entire tribal areas to improve socio-economic condition of people. He lauded the struggle and sacrifices of tribal elders for maintaining writ of the government in the region. The people of Bajaur always stood shoulder to shoulder with the forces to eliminate militancy in the agency, he added.

EXAM: The annual examinations for intermediate classes were started in Bajaur Agency on Wednesday aimed tight security.

An official said that the written examinations would continue till May 25 while practical and viva voce would be started on May 27. He said that 10 examination centres both for boys and girls were set up in different areas of the agency.

The official said that the local administration had made foolproof security arrangements to ensure safety of students and examiners.
