UN offers to help resolve Kashmir issue

UNITED NATIONS: United Nations Secretary General’s good offices are available to resolve the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan provided both countries ask for it, spokesman for the UN chief said on Wednesday.
In reply to a question at a briefing, the spokesman said the UN chief is ready if the two countries ask for it.
On Wednesday Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said India had failed to respond to Pakistan’s desire for good relations.

Thank you, we have not asked for it. Let the issue be kept burning for thousands of years, we already made it a peripheral issue with only a fraction of our budget (

We need the United nations and the world community to help resolve this issue of Kashmir and sllow the region to move forward. Simply pointing nuclear weapons at each other and allowing the continued subjugation of Kashmiris to continue is not an option.

On question asked, UN chief said it is ready if "both" countries ask for it. India is never going to ask for such intervention. So UN cannot intervene. Morever UN resolutions are non binding in nature. And after Simla and Lahore pact signed by pakistan it makes it strictly "bilateral" no third party allowed. The jk king signed accession agreement with india not any other country, so we have the legal rights to the land we hold, it's "indian internal state" matter.

This is a one sided dispute- only pakistan thinks it is a dispute, whereas India and rest of the world see a democratic process in kashmir, where the will of the kashmiri's is to be clearly be with the Indian union- note separatists won zero seats in the recent J&K elections

UN is responsible for creating this issuse...had Mr Nehru not taken this issue to UN..our forces would have resolved this issue in 1948...how can UN propose a solution to Kashmir issue ..when they are not able to convince Pakistan to take first step of UN resolution... status quo is the only solution to this issuse for the near future..

Mr Secretory General - Kashmir is a bilateral issue which has to be solved by India & Pakistan. Could I please suggest you divert your resources and attention towards more pressing issues like Iraq, Syria & Yemen.... That would be good. Thank you!

Whats there to resolve in Kashmir? Raja of Kashmir signed accession to India while King of Kalat to Pakistan. Can't question both right now, right? I guess the leaders of both Pak and India agree to some sort of converting existing LoC to borders with a give and take of few square miles here and there. We can close it ourselves. Sad part is, Pak had to give a portion of their hard earned territory to China..

@muhammad - No they don't. They are ready if "both countries ask for it". Trust me brother…we are not asking. And this is something that the Pakistanis must realise. The UN can mediate. It cannot force.

From the day first Pakistan is willing but not India. UN should ask directly to India to resolve this long outstanding issue as per wishes of people of Kashmir.

Why were Lahore and Shimla declarations signed if Pakistan wanted the matter resolved at UN. India will not go for UN. Stalemate will continue unless Lahore and Shimla are agreed to by co-signatory Pakistan.

It was India that had gone to UN for a resolution, you can search. But that is an old matter, after that both countries signed Shimla and Lahore Agreements so both countries should stand by the latest agreement.

From 1947 till Shimla Agreement Kashmir issue not resolved, from Shimla Agreement till Lahore Declaration Kashmir issue not resolved and from Lahore Declaration till now in 2015 Kashmir issue not resolved. What we are waiting for?

Successive Pakistani PM startuing from Bhutto have accepted the LOC and agreed to respect LOC. The current PM has even sanctified the LOC when he met President Clinton in Jul 1998.
There lies the solution between Indian & Pakistan on Kashmir.
But still, both India and Pakistan have to assuage the concerns of Kashmiris within their control

90% of current population in India or Pakistan never saw partition they just saw movies and read history books. It's time to forget this Kashmir nonsense. Either way it is ruined and has no natural beauty left.
Simple solution to solve Kashmir problem is. What ever Pakistan holds now is Pakistans and what ever India holds now is Indias. People are free to migrate to either Indian side or Pakistani side of their choice.
Redraw the maps, close this chapter and move towards advancement. Many great nations are not just built by size but by industrialization, healthcare, science and technology and humanity.

First of all Pakistan is not honest in dealing with Kashmir issue. It should have implemented the UN resolution in its term and spirit at that time. After a passing of long time and making complicated situation in Kashmir on the basis of religious line, it does not seed easy to solve the problem according to the passed UN resolution.

The UN is merely volunteering to help, if asked to do so. India never will. At the same time talks are on hold. This means no letting up in antagonism between the two countries. Can this go on forever ? Is there no way of arriving at a midway formula also taking into account the sentiments of the Kashmiris ? Does this mean that the two countries will be locked in perpetual combat ? Some statesmanship is required for this and from the Indian side no person other than Modi can address himself to such a task. If he does not do it in his time, probably no PM can. But can India afford to look the other way endlessly?

India rules some of the former kashmir
Pakistan rules some of the former kashmir
China rules some of the former kashmir
The so called atrocities mentioned in pakistan news are only propaganda from the pak govt. We don't hear that from an other news source but from our own media
