ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkmenistan agreed on Friday to expedite work on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (Tapi) gas pipeline project which is scheduled to be completed by 2018.
President Mamnoon Hussain and Turkmenistan’s President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during their meeting held on the sidelines of Canakkale battles centenary ceremonies in Istanbul, agreed to step up the project.
The spade work has begun but the two sides have reservations over Afghanistan’s security situation.
A spokesperson for the president said the project was cost-effective and would help enhance cooperation between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.
“The government attaches high priority to timely completion of the Tapi pipeline,” the president was quoted as saying.
