This is confusing. If India rejected the IPI pipeline because 1)they don't trust PK and 2)they got a nuke deal with US, then how can they still be in TAPI? Especially since they have decent relations with Iran and rocky relations with Afghan. This makes no strategic sense for India unless there is a mistake.

Will be a Great economic success for Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan & India when the project gets completed.

We have been dreaming of this pipeline from last 10 years.Remember when Gen Musharraf used to tell us about this project.If Musharraf couldn't do it, how will this government do it? Iran-Pakistan pipeline(again delayed from last 10 years) In China they cut Himalaya mountains and make artificial rivers to transfer water from one corner of country to another corner whereas we cannot materialize a single pipeline. Our fertilizer,cement sector close down during winters because we don't have any gas.Textile is already shifting to Bangladesh(irony).We are heading in a wrong direction when our problem solutions are there but we sit there and do nothing.Now energy crisis will likely be solved in 10 years time but not because of our government because "Chinese workers,engineers,managers" are managing the development project.Even China knows if they hand over these project to Pakistanis , it will be a disaster(corruption).

Pipeline to Iran AND Turkmenistan?! This is great for pakistan. Even if just one pipeline is built it will be great, and it sounds like the Iran pipeline will definitely be built.

why are we not buying gas from iran then when the pipeline is already ready?

China's $ 47 bn, Iran $ 5 bn, TAPC revenues projected at $ 40bn, Iran -Pakistan - Asian ocean nations, projected revenues $ 20 bn, China- Pak economic corridor transit fees revenues projected $ 10 bn. Total $ 70 bn, imports $ $ 35 bn. Trade surplus $ 35. National debt $ 60 bn. Good days ahead. We should look west, north and south. Full stop. No need for poor east.

@nini the pipeline on the Pakistani side is yet to be built, it was delayed due to US sanctions on Iran. As a result Pakistan was unable to borrow the money to build the pipeline, however now due the deal with Iran, we will be able to complete this but will take a couple of years.

Why not Iran Pakistan gas pipeline which is highly reasonable than the long TAPI pipeline which will transport gas through Caspian Sea. However, gas through IP pipeline would directly reach Pakistan.

Please reduce the dia of pipe to 1 or 2 inches so as to make it affordable. Plastic pipe will be more feasible and cheaper.

I agree with Zak. Don't need India included in this. Pakistan has 200 million people that makes any project feasible enough!

I doubt about success of this project. India made its foothold strong in Afghanistan which is not in Pakistan's interest due to Indian involvement in Baluchistan. Both countries will compete in Afghanistan for their influence which is pretty bad for this project. And of course no one can deny Taliban factor.

What happened to Pak Ira pipeline. Is that project shifted to cold storage just to please Saudis.

@Omar no they won't ....as they don't have purchasing power to feed the projects. India is not valued for its sheet numbers,but, with massive GDP purchasing power parity (PPP),only nxt to US and China........

If it had to go to China, then no need to pass through Pakistan in the first place, because geographically, China doesn't need Pakistan to access central asian gas, and the makers of the pipeline would have avoided a terror-infested, instability prone zone like Pakistan in the first place, if the pipeline wouldn't have gone to India, Pakistan wouldn't have been included. Moreover, to make it "TAP" would be absolutely senseless, since to make the purpose of such an expensive project to provide gas to a slow, small, low income, low growth economy like Pakistan would be hilariously imprudent.
