ISLAMABAD: The federal government will soon launch a one-year training programme for educated youths in the country, Maryam Nawaz, former chairperson of Prime Minister’s Youth Development Programme (YDP), announced on Friday.

“Under this scheme about 50,000 internships will be provided to students, having 16 years of education,” she said while addressing a certificate awarding ceremony organised by the YDP. She was chief guest at the function.

Top position-holders of the skilled youth programme were given away certificates by Ms Nawaz.

She said that internees of the programme would be trained in accordance with their education in public and private institutions of the country.

“Students of seminaries meeting the HEC criteria will also be trained under the skill development programme,” she said.

She said that 25,000 youths from all parts of the country, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, had been trained under the programme in around 100 trades.
