SIALKOT: The ground of Government Girls Community Model Elementary School, Seehowal, Pasrur, has become a pond of sewage as wastewater from the village is disposed of into it and the students and teachers have to walk through the sewage to reach classrooms.

The students’ parents, including Khurram Shehzad, Saeed Ahmed, Abdul Majeed Butt and Arif Mehmood, say some influential people have diverted the village’s sewage to the school. They say the school’s ground has become a pond of dirty water and a breeding place for the mosquitoes and the education department is not willing to pay attention to it.

They warn of holding a protest in front of the office of District Monitoring Officer (DMO) Aamir Raza and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Nadeem Sarwar if the problem is not solved. The parents have urged Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Gujranwala Commissioner Division Shumail Ahmed Khawaja to look into the matter.

The school management says the situation has been repeatedly brought into the notice of the senior officials of education department but to no avail.

When contacted, Sialkot EDO (Education) Yaseen Junaid Butt said he would visit the school soon to assess the situation.
