LAHORE: Shaharyar Malik went to full distance in beating Zakaullah to make the men’s singles quarter-finals of the Servis Punjab Open Tennis Championships at the Bagh-i-Jinnah grass courts here on Wednesday.

Shaharyar, who made a flying start by winning the first set 6-3, lost his concentration in the second as Zaka made a strong comeback to take the set 6-1.

Fully dominating the second set, Zaka won it dropping just one point to make it 1-1. The fight for supremacy continued throughout the decisive third set where Shaharyar finally edged out Zaka 7-6.

In the other men’s singles pre-quarterfinals, Mohammad Abid, Fayyaz Khan, Sikander Hayat, Faizan Khurram and Heera Ashiq emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, pre-quarterfinals in the U-12, U-14 and U-18 categories were also decided.
