RAWALPINDI: Residents will be waking up to a rainy Sunday as the Met office has forecast rain, which started on Saturday, to continue for the next 48 hours.

Rain accompanied by gusty winds of up to 70km per hour blowing from the northwest lashed down on the twin cities at around 7pm.

The wind uprooted many signboards in Saddar and Murree Road but no loss of life or property was reported.

According to a Met Office offical, the westerly wave is affecting the western parts of the country and is expected to grip northern parts of the country until Thursday. He said the recent spell of rain did not cause any flooding. However, he said, gusty winds and thunderstorm will hit the twin cities.

Due to a weather warning, the local administration was put on alert. However, the Met Office official said winter and spring rains are unlikely to create a flood like situation in Leh Nullah and others nullahs as showers are interrupted by days of clear weather.

However, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has asked the contractors of metro bus project to ensure installation of glass as construction work will be affected by rains.
