LAHORE: The Pakistan Day Cup will be the star attraction of the eight-event card when the 30th Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse here on Saturday.

Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards have on Thursday decided to hold Sunday’s races a day earlier on Saturday because of the ICC World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand on Sunday.

Five acceptors in the class five race to be contested over 1,400 metres will measure their strides in the cup race.

The supporting event, the Al Safeer Cup, to be run over 1,600 metres, has been declared void for want of sufficient number of runners.

With the exception of Pakistan Day, the other seven races on the day’s card will be contested over 1,200 metres.

Meanwhile, the LRC has directed all trainers to keep their stable clean and shift their pets or birds of any kind to some other place outside the club premises within a week.

A notification issued by the club warned that severe action will be taken against those failing to carry out the order.

In all, 72 horses will take part in eight events, with the first race to begin at 1.30pm.
