LAKKI MARWAT: The local police on Friday booked owners and heads of 10 private educational institutions over poor security of campuses.

A police official said the police issued security advisory to both private and government schools and colleges in the wake of the recent terrorist attack at the Army Public School Peshawar. He said schools and colleges were told to implement security guidelines in letter and spirit to ensure protection of students and staff members but many of them didn’t comply with instructions.

The official said poor security at schools and colleges posed serious threat to the life of students and staff members.

Official says many educational institutions not following security instructions

He said on the directives of DPO Ismail Kharak, the police visited several private educational institutions in Lakki, Naurang, Darra Pezu and Dadiwala areas and checked security checks there.

The official said inadequate security could cause some untoward incident at schools and colleges.

He said many educational institutions had yet to install closed circuit television camera on the premises, barbed wires on boundary walls and placed barriers in front of main gates. The official said boundary walls of several schools were not as high they should be.

He said during inspection at a private school in Naurang town, not only the police found a shotgun owned by the administration to be out of order but there were no rounds and cartridges as well.

The official said separate cases were registered against owners and heads of such educational institutions for action.

COMMUNITY POLICING: District police officer Ismail Kharak on Friday called for the promotion of community policing to fight crime and maintain law and order in Lakki Marwat. He said this while chairing a high-level meeting at his office. Noted among participants were SP (investigation) Siddiq Khan, Lakki SDPO Rafiullah Khan and Naurang SDPO Niaz Gul.

The meeting discussed the overall law and order situation with a special focus on the performance of police officials posted to police stations and checkposts.

Matters pertaining to action against proclaimed offenders, drug traffickers, gamblers and anti-social elements and pace of investigation into important cases also came under discussion in the meeting, which lasted for several hours.

The participants also discussed progress in investigation into cases and the mechanism to evaluate the performance of station house officers and heads of police checkposts.

Kharak asked policemen to eradicate crime at all costs and make crackdown on criminals result-oriented in their respective areas.

“To protect people and eliminate crime is the prime responsibility of the police. This goal can be achieved by showing commitment and professionalism,” he said.

The DPO said the police had formulated a special mechanism to judge the performance of SHOs and other subordinate police officials on weekly and monthly basis.
