Sindh women athletics team bags runners-up trophy

LAHORE: Sindh women amateur athletics team bagged as many as ten medals including three gold, four silver and three bronze medals to finish second behind tournament champions Punjab at the Inter-provincial championship organized here on Saturday.

Provincial teams from Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Baluchistan, Gilgit Baltistan, FATA and the Capital Territory Islamabad are competing in the event.

Women’s events spread over two sessions on on March 6 and 7 included 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw and the 4x100m and 4x400m relay races.

Sindh’s performances at Punjab Stadium included Sana Rajput’s dual gold medals in shotput and discus. Notable mentions included 13-year-old Reyna Adams run for silver in the 800m, 13-year-old Shanzeh Saeed’s 200m sprint for bronze as well as 11-year-old Salwa Farid’s photo finish for the bronze in the 400m sprint.

In the men events, the highlight of the meet was the 4x100m sprint, won hands down by Sindh’s relay team. Sindh also picked up a silver in 100m sprint as well as a bronze in the long jump.

The Sindh athletics team was trained and supported by its coaches Roma Altaf and Ahmed Wali.
