NAROWAL: Hundreds of girl students along with their parents blocked Narowal-Narang Road outside Pejowali village on Wednesday in protest against the district administration and the Punjab Education Department for not providing funds to fill a pond full with sewerage water adjacent to their school.
The students of Government Girls High School, Pejowali, also burnt tyres and chanted slogans against officials of the district administration and the education department.
The protesting students said the continuous bad smell was posing a serious threat to their health.
They said the situation during the rain became more horrible for students and the teaching staff who had to walk through the sewerage water.
Villagers Muhammad Ashraf, Nasir Ali and Arif Gujjar said that snakes could be seen in the pond which sometime drifted into the classrooms.
They said several applications had been submitted to the district administration and officers of the education department, but they paid no heed to resolve the issue.
EDO (Education) Ghulam Sabir said that his office had no funds to resolve the issue.
He said he had sent his request to the district administration for the provision of funds to fill the sewerage pond adjacent to the school.
