QUETTA: A security man and a civilian were killed and seven others injured in two bomb blasts, one in the border town of Chaman and the other in Marwaar area of Quetta, on Tuesday.

According to police, the bomb planted along the main Mall road of Chaman went off when hundreds of people were around. Eight people, including a woman, were injured.

Law-enforcement personnel rushed to the area and took the injured to the district hospital, where Shamsullah, a vendor, succumbed to his injuries.

He had received multiple injuries, a medical officer at the hospital told Dawn.

Police said a timer had been attached to the bomb weighing about five kgs. The powerful blast damaged three cars and several motorcycles and windows and doors of many nearby shops and buildings. It triggered panic among people.

This was the second blast in Chaman’s main bazaar in three days. Explosives planted in the town’s old customs house were defused by the bomb disposal squad.

Meanwhile, a security man was killed when a landmine exploded in the coalmine area of Marwaar in Quetta.

According to officials, Frontier Corps personnel were clearing landmines in the area when one of them exploded, killing FC soldier, identified as Mohammad Khan.

During a search operation in the area, security forces rounded up 10 suspects who were detained for interrogation.
