ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Australia have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of defence and security, including military training, during talks between visiting Australian Chief of Defence Force (CDF) Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif at Army General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

"Matters of mutual interest including measures to further enhance defence and security cooperation between both the countries came under discussion," according to an Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) statement.

Defence sources told Dawn that the regional security situation, including Afghanistan, also came under discussion during the meeting.

General Raheel Sharif apprised the Australian defence chief about Pakistan's progress in the war against terror and successes achieved in the ongoing operation in North Waziristan.

Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin lauded the resolve of the Pakistani nation and armed forces in the war against terrorism and offered full cooperation to Pakistan in this regard.

Earlier on arrival at GHQ, a smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented Guard of Honour to the dignitary. Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin also laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
