KOHAT: The anti-corruption department Kohat has raided several schools in Marai area and found many teachers absent, some for over a month.

The assistant director of the anti-corruption department, Ali Hassan, visited government high school for girls in Marai and found that Wawa Bibi, a teacher, had been absent since January 12, 2014 without any application.

Two teachers Farzana and Shagufta were also on French leave.

During another raid, it was found that Bibi Wajiha, working as administrator of government girls’ primary school, Hajiabad, was absent for several days.

The teachers and local people told the team that Naila Robi, headmistress of the middle school for girls in the same building, had not been seen since the opening of the school. A teacher admitted that they had been marking her present under duress.

Head of raiding team says action will be taken against the absentees

The local elders told the raiding team that they had repeatedly informed the education department about the issue but no action was taken against the absent teachers. They alleged that officials of education department were bribed by those teachers, who did not come from Kohat city to the village to perform their duty.

Mr Hasan assured them that stern action would be taken against the staff to ensure their presence on duty. He said that the report would now be sent to high authorities of education department for action.

On the instructions of the chairman of board of directors of Pesco, Eng Malik Asad, the superintendent engineer held a kuli kutchery here and listened to the problems of the people. He ordered expulsion of meter reader Israr and superintendent Mohammad Ayaz of Alizai area from the district immediately. They were blamed for seeking bribe from the consumers.

Mr Khan said that it was the compulsion of Pesco to resort to heavy loadshedding where recovery of dues was negligible. He asked the people to pay bills for smooth supply and uninterrupted supply of power to them.

MINISTER: Federal Minister of Textile Senator Abbas Afridi has said that lawmakers from Kohat are responsible for pushing it backward due to disunity and political rivalry.

Addressing a ceremony to inaugurate gas supply to Kot and Mir Ahmedkhel area, he said that they should forget the past and work for the prosperity of the people of Kohat which was their prime duty.

He also criticised the local MNA for not initiating mega development projects in Kohat. He said that the MNA didn’t approve any project of gas and electricity supply during nearly two years rule of his party, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
