LAHORE: Nine matches were decided on the first day of the Alam Al-Khayal National Junior Tennis Championships which got under way at the Bagh-i-Jinnah grass courts here on Saturday.

With all matches played in the U-18 categories on the first day of the event, competitions in the ladies U-18, boys’ U-14 and U-10 categories will start from Sunday (today).

Except for Ibrahim Illtifat all other eight winners had easy sailing in the U-18 event, for the winner faced a tough challenge from Hafiz Arbab Ali before completing the victory 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

Boys’ U-18: Syed Nofil Kalim bt Abdul Sami 6-0, 6-3; Naushair Tariq bt Danish Kamil 6-0, 6-0; Humbal bt Ali Omer Hayat 6-1, 6-1; Farhanullah Khan bt Hassan Kamran 6-1, 6-2; Shazil Malik bt Kamran Nazir 6-2, 6-2; Nalain Abbas bt Taufiq Khan 6-1, 6-4; Ibrahim Illtifat bt Hafiz Arbab Ali 6-2, 2-6, 6-2; Fahad Ahmad bt Abdullah 6-3, 6-1; Muzamil Murtaza bt Amir Khan 6-0, 6-0.
