KARACHI: Three suspected gangsters were shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in the Kalakot area of Lyari on Sunday morning, officials said.

The Rangers and police conducted a targeted raid on a tip-off in Afshani Gali near the Gabol Park, where an encounter took place.

During the exchange of fire, three suspects were killed while two policemen were also wounded, said City SP Aftab Nizamani.

The dead men were identified as Maab Baloch, Yasin and Hasan. “Maab Baloch was involved in the killing of policemen and PPP workers in Lyari,” said the City SP.

“He was one of the main commanders of the Uzair Baloch group in the area.”

The bodies were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Two policemen, identified as Khadim Husain and Ashiq Husain, suffered minor bullet wounds, said SP Nizamani.
