KARACHI: While taking notice of the demolition of a government school in Shah Faisal Colony, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Monday ordered an inquiry into the issue and assured the school’s teaching and non-teaching staff of all due support so that they can continue with their work.

TV channels reported in the morning that the government school building, which was run as Akhtar Government Primary and Secondary School in the first shift and as Asif Government Boys Primary and Lower Secondary School in the second shift, was found demolished when students and the teaching staff arrived there on the first day after the winter vacation.

With the consistent coverage of the happening by the broadcast media, the ordeal of students at the Shah Faisal Colony government school drew attention of the authorities.

“This school was built on a claimed property,” the governor told reporters after visiting the school.

“The party that claims ownership says they have rented out the place to the government and their contract with the government is no more valid. So during the winter vacation, they demolished the school building to build their structure. I have asked the secretary education to visit the place and hold a complete inquiry into the entire issue.”

In the meantime, he said, the arrangements would be made for the students of demolished government schools so that their education process remained intact. The governor showed serious resentment saying that even if the school was built on the claimed property, demolition of the building during the winter vacation was not justified.

“I have also talked to the education minister and secretary who have assured that the building would be rebuilt and till the completion of the demolished structure, the children would be provided proper place to continue their education,” he added.
