KARACHI: A young man, whose brother was killed a few months ago, was shot dead in a suspected sectarian attack in Paposh Nagar on Thursday, said police and party officials.

They added that 25-year-old Syed Salman Rizvi along with his younger brother was standing at a mechanic workshop to get his motorbike repaired when armed motorcyclists attacked him.

He suffered critical wounds in the head and face and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“It appears to be a targeted killing case linked with sectarianism,” said Paposh Nagar SHO Sarfraz Gondal. The victim was a resident of KDA flats in the Sakhi Hasan area. His brother Noman, aka Nomi, had been killed in a suspected sectarian attack around five months ago in Orangi Town, added the police officer.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen said the deceased was a member of the party.

“Over the past four days six members of the Shia community have been targeted in the metropolis while the provincial government, the police and Rangers have failed to control terrorism and are performing the role of a silent spectator,” he added.
