Soldier killed in blast

GHALANAI: An army soldier was killed and two were injured in a roadside bomb blast in Qandaro area of Mohmand tribal agency on Tuesday.

A newly emerging militant organisation, Jamaatul Ahrar, has claimed responsibility for the blast. Its spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan, in an email sent to newspapers, said that members of the Jamaat had carried out the attack.

A group of soldiers was fetching water from a spring when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by militants went off, Assistant Political Agent of Ghalanai, Zeeshan Abdullah, told reporters. Two soldiers were injured and shifted to a Peshawar hospital.

Security personnel were looking for the attackers when another IED exploded, killing a soldier on the spot.

The other day, three security personnel were wounded when an army convey going to Baizai near Pak-Afghan border from Ghalanai was hit by a bomb blast.
