KARACHI: A prayer leader was shot dead in a suspected sectarian attack in Jauharabad on Tuesday, police said.

They added that the victim, associated with the Tableeghi Jamaat, was on his way from Sohrab Goth to the Madni mosque near Ayesha Manzil when he was targeted.

The police said Hafeezullah, 35, was attacked by armed pillion-riders wearing helmets near the Nasirabad roundabout in Block 14 of Federal B Area. He was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival, the officials said.

“The victim was recently made a prayer leader of a mosque in the Al-Asif Square area,” said Jauharabad SHO Sajid Javed. The officer said that the targeted killing seemed to be linked with sectarianism.
