KARACHI: A suspect, who was arrested in a wounded condition following an encounter a few days ago, died in police custody on Friday.

Officials said that Younis, a suspected robber, sustained bullet wounds in a police encounter in Allahwala Town within the jurisdiction of the Korangi Industrial Area police station on Dec 16 and was arrested and taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

The police had claimed that a TT pistol and a snatched motorcycle was recovered from him.

Landhi SP Akhtar Farooq said that doctors at the hospital discharged him after treatment. On Friday, his condition deteriorated and he died while being shifted to the JPMC.

He claimed that it was a “blunder” on the part of the JPMC doctors who discharged him without proper treatment.

He said the deceased was a robber and had earlier been arrested by the Ibrahim Hyderi police in the past.
