‘Pakistan suffered heavy losses in fighting war on terror’

ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Mariyam Aurangzeb on Friday said that Pakistan had suffered heavy losses in fighting the war on terror.

“Pakistan has given unprecedented sacrifices against the war on terrorism,” she said while speaking to Pakistan Television channel.

Aurangzeb said that more than 50,000 people including army, police, and civilians have lost their lives in the war on terror. She added that the country has also lost Rs80 billion in this war.

The parliamentary secretary said that taking measures for eliminating terrorism was the provincial subject after the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

She said that all provinces had collected the data of the martyred and injured and sent to the ministry of interior department for necessary procedure.

Replying to a question, Mariyam Aurangzeb said that there are “no reports” of Islamic States (IS), also known by Arabic acronym Daish, in Pakistan.

The unfortunate thing is that all these sacrifices are not appreciated at all among the international community/coalition. Pakistani lives are unfortunately of no value.

And who would you hold responsible for all that you have accounted for! Lack of Statesmanship or Egoistic, Self Serving, Self Appointed so called politicians heading the Government in turn! Did India and Iran involved themselves to suffer such losses! Pakistan needs a Statesman and or a Visionary to be in tune with the time!

You only had two major military offensives in the past 11 years and one of those is only a few months old ... so how do you accumulate 50,000 deaths? Was your military asleep or was the good/bad Taliban thing so confusing that they elected to sit on the sidelines?

The world must not forget that Pakistan is still paying a very heavy price for the war against terrorism. Pakistan did not ask for this war for it was trust upon it by circumstances and factors it had no say in.

This number of more than 50,000 casualties which Mariyam Aurangzeb is stating, seems to be flawed. Did the government take into account those casualties which NATO Special Operations and Black Water dug mass graves for, or sent to black sites and are still missing?

Each successful drone strike is a big loss to Pakistan. Pakistan invested too much in Taliban but they were uprooted by Nato, definitely huge loss.

I do not believe that the lost against fighting terrorism is only Rs. 80 billions, it is much higher if you accounts all the losses and casualties. It would be $80 billions. When our leaders talk about the loss and casualty, they should publish every year to the international community the full amount of casualty, then the world would realize our sacrifices. I don't believe our political leaders portraying the full facts to make the world realize our sacrifices.
